Same-Day No-Cool Repair

    AC Not Blowing Cold Air?

If your air conditioner is running but the vents are pushing warm air, the system has stopped moving heat out of your house. Below is exactly what causes it, what you can safely check yourself, and what we do when you call.

Up-front, flat-rate pricing quoted before any work begins.

    Check These 4 Things First

    1. Thermostat: set to COOL, fan on AUTO (not ON), and at least three degrees below the current room temperature.
    2. Air filter: if it's gray and matted, replace it. A blocked filter is the single most common cause of warm air.
    3. Breakers: check the panel for both the indoor air handler and the outdoor unit. If a breaker trips again after resetting once, stop and call us.
    4. Ice on the unit: if you see frost on the refrigerant line or coil, shut cooling off and run the fan only until it thaws.

Still warm after all four? It's a component failure — that's our job.

8 Reasons an AC Runs But Won't Cool

These are the causes we actually diagnose on no-cool calls across East Texas, roughly in the order we find them. Most are same-day repairs.

    Clogged air filter

A filter packed with dust starves the evaporator coil of airflow. The coil gets too cold, ices over, and the air coming out of your vents turns warm.

Fix: filter replacement, coil thaw and airflow check — usually the cheapest cause on this list.

    Failed run capacitor

The capacitor gives the compressor and fan motor the jolt they need to start. When it fails, the outdoor fan may spin while the compressor never engages, so the system moves air but never cools it.

Fix: capacitor replacement, typically same-day on the first visit.

    Low refrigerant from a leak

Refrigerant carries heat out of your house. A leak in the coil, line set or fittings drops the charge, and cooling capacity falls off fast — often worst in the afternoon heat.

Fix: leak detection, repair, then a measured recharge to factory spec.

    Frozen evaporator coil

Restricted airflow or low charge causes ice to form on the indoor coil. Ice blocks airflow entirely, so the blower pushes warm, humid air through the house.

Fix: controlled thaw, then correcting the underlying airflow or refrigerant cause.

    Burned contactor or bad relay

The contactor is the electrical switch that starts the outdoor unit. Pitted or welded contacts mean the condenser never runs, even though the thermostat is calling for cooling.

Fix: contactor replacement and an electrical inspection of the disconnect and wiring.

    Dirty condenser coil

The outdoor coil dumps heat outside. Cottonwood, grass clippings and East Texas pollen mat the fins, so heat stays in the system and vent temperatures climb.

Fix: professional coil cleaning and a refrigerant pressure check.

    Thermostat set or wired wrong

A thermostat on FAN ON circulates room-temperature air between cooling cycles, which feels exactly like a broken AC. Dead batteries and miswired replacements cause the same complaint.

Fix: thermostat configuration, batteries, or replacement if the unit has failed.

    Failing compressor

The compressor is the heart of the system. When it seizes or loses compression, nothing cools — this is the failure we work hardest to prevent by catching the smaller problems above early.

Fix: compressor replacement, or an honest replacement quote if the system is near end of life.

    Keeping It From Happening Again

Nearly every warm-air call we run traces back to something a maintenance visit would have caught: a weak capacitor reading low on the meter, a coil coated in pollen, a slow refrigerant leak, or a drain line about to clog. East Texas summers run long and humid, and systems here work harder than the manufacturer's rating assumes.

Change your filter every 30 to 90 days, keep two feet of clearance around the outdoor unit, rinse the condenser fins gently with a garden hose in spring, and have the system professionally serviced before cooling season starts. That combination prevents the large majority of mid-summer failures.

If your system is over 12 years old and this isn't the first no-cool call this season, it's worth comparing repair cost to replacement before you spend more.

    AC Not Cooling: Common Questions

Why is my AC running but not blowing cold air?+

The unit is powered and the blower is moving air, but something is stopping the system from removing heat. The most common causes we find in East Texas homes are a dirty air filter, a failed run capacitor, low refrigerant from a leak, a frozen evaporator coil, a bad contactor, or a thermostat set to ON instead of AUTO.

What should I check before calling a technician?+

Check three things: the thermostat (cooling mode, fan on AUTO, set at least 3 degrees below room temperature), the air filter (replace it if it's gray or clogged), and the breaker for both the indoor and outdoor units. If the outdoor unit is iced over, shut the system off at the thermostat and run the fan only to thaw it. If none of that restores cold air, it needs a technician.

Should I keep running the AC if it's blowing warm air?+

No. Running a system that isn't cooling can turn a small repair into a compressor replacement. If the air coming out of your vents isn't noticeably cooler than room air, shut it off and call us at (903) 479-3015.

How much does it cost to fix an AC that isn't blowing cold air?+

It depends entirely on the cause. A capacitor or contactor is a small, same-day part; a refrigerant leak repair or compressor failure is significantly more. We diagnose the system, then give you a flat-rate, up-front price before any work starts — you approve the number before we turn a wrench.

How fast can you get here?+

For emergency no-cool calls across our service area we are typically on-site within 60 minutes. A live person answers our phone 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Is low refrigerant something you can just top off?+

Refrigerant doesn't get used up — if you're low, there is a leak. We find and repair the leak first, then recharge the system to the manufacturer's spec. Repeatedly adding refrigerant without fixing the leak wastes money and can damage the compressor.

Do you work on all AC brands?+

Yes. We service every major brand including Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York, American Standard and Bryant.
